Yoga is an ancient practice that started in India. Peopl who practiced yoga had the goal of reaching spiritual insight and a state of tranquility. When people refer to yoga, nowadays, it is often in reference to Hatha Yoga and the asanas or postures that are used as forms of exercise. However, there are lots more types of yoga that are practiced.

Ananda yoga focuses on gentle postures that help move energy to the brain and get the body ready for meditation.

Ashtanga yoga is truly physically demanding and it entails synchronized breathing and a progressive and continuous series of postures that produce intense heat in the body.

Bikram yoga, also known as hot yoga, is often practiced in 95 to 105 degree temperatures to promote elasticity and detoxification.

Hatha is a very relaxed type of yoga that focuses on the postures and the breath. ISHTA focuses on opening energy channels or chi in the body by using postures, visualizations, and meditation.

Iyengar Yoga promotes flexixbility, strength, endurance and balance in the body.

Kripalu, or the yoga of consciousness, is gentle and introspective. It motivates users to hold poses and explore and release blockages in the emotions and spirit.

Kundalini focuses on awakening energy in the spine and drawing it up, and this type of yoga often entails chanting, meditation, and breathing exercises.

Vinyasa yoga focuses on a coordination of breathing and movement, and is a very physically active type of yoga.

A great way to build up strength and help your posture is by practicing yoga. Also, it can help you learn how to breathe properly and become calmer. The other effects that yoga can have on the body are increased concentration and improvement in mood. Also, yoga is known to lower blood pressure and slow heart rate. This can be very advantageous to those with high blood pressure, heart diseases, and for stroke victims. Practicing yoga has also been linked to boost immunity and decreased cholesterol levels. Asthma, back pain, arthritis, insomnia, and even multiple sclerosis are other conditions that can be eased by yoga.

Practicing yoga can bring positive points to your health for these reasons and many others that are still being studied. It has been proven to be effective for pain and stress relief, breathing, flexibility, improved strength, weight management, better circulation, cardiovascular conditioning, as well as helping you to focus on the now and finding inner peace.
